multiple install in same partition ?
Hi Greg
It's not recommended - and shouldn't be attempted. You should see an error message to that effect when trying to install a second copy of XP onto the same partition. -- Will Denny MS MVP Windows Shell/User Please reply to the News Groups "Greg Lewin" wrote in message ... I have never heard of this being done in any previous versions of Windows - it may be a new 'feature' in XP. Greg |

The person says that 'access is denied'. I guess Administrator privilege may be needed for this. I'm going to try a Knoppix disk to see if that can get in. Greg |

Greg Hi Greg It's not a 'feature' of XP and a warning message will be issued before continuing. If someone has done it, then all existing files/programs may not be accessible because of the newer Registry being used. -- Will Denny MS MVP Windows Shell/User Please reply to the News Groups |

Greg Hi Greg for the 'access is denied' error message, try he "How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP" http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;308421 Although, I can't guarantee that access to the files will be possible. -- Will Denny MS MVP Windows Shell/User Please reply to the News Groups |

And as you say, files would have been overwritten and therefore to all intent and purposes would have been lost. -- Will Denny MS MVP Windows Shell/User Please reply to the News Groups |

Worth a try anyway! It's all learning... Greg |
