USB 3 Flash Write Protects Itself
Many times my USB 3 Flash (SanDisk USB3 32G) drive has decided to go to
write protect while being used on Win XP Pro PC. I cannot figure out what causes it. I can read all I want but not write a single byte. I have found that by simply placing the USB 3 Flash drive in a Windows 7 PC is the only way to unlock it. Doing so does no damage to files. Then it reads and writes just fine in the Win XP Pro PC until it decides to write protect itself. Is there not some solution that can be done in just the Win XP Pro PC? My Win XP PC goes on the road without a Win 7 companion. -- -- No signature --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

On Windows 7, I had an intermittant problem with my HP laserjet printer causing the blue screen of death until I switched its USB connection from USB3 to USB2. -- David E. USB 3 Flash Write Protects Itself
All ports on Win XP are USB2 and I did try several.
I also have Sony USB3 Flash drive that always works fine on that PC and in all the ports before and after the Sandisk write protects. The problems seems unique to the SanDisk. When I plug the SanDisk into my Win 7 PC it pops up a message to scan it. But it also locks up the mouse so I have to keyboard fiddle until I get to the button to do the quick scan. The quick scan reports it found no problems but then taking it to the Win XP Pro PC it now works properly. Somehow the scan removes the write protect. After pulling the SanDisk from the Win 7 PC, the mouse is active and all else seems OK. Really weird. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

Format it to remove the Sandisk software.
