Default End of free Win10?

Though the free upgrade offer officially expired quite some time ago, as
of a few months ago I could upgrade Win7 to Win10 free.

Just did an upgrade today and Win10 was not activated when done.

I assume the free upgrade is now history.

It's been done for a while but from what I read, if you had already
upgraded to 10 on the machine and decided to reinstall it at a later
time, it automatically activated. Apparently, Microsoft keeps a record
of the machines which have valid activations.

The machines I was talking about had an activated Win7 and had never
before had Win10.

Not a big deal though, I got enough freebies and to buy a few licenses
will be fine.

There are still people claiming you can do it. Last updated Oct.30.

Only for nutters and idiots. Windows 10 requires high level of
intelligence but you don't have enough of it so if you are really
desperate, and you sound like one who is, then go and buy a full license
and activate it by entering the serial number.

Good luck.

"Editors' note, Nov. 3, 2017: This story was updated to specify that the
free upgrade for those seeking assistive technologies will expire Dec.
31. After that, all users will need to pay for the Windows 10 upgrade,
which starts at $119."

Thank you but I do not use AT and I'd hate to lie to Microsoft.

philo,

Understand but you are not lying to MS and this has been a well published
upgrade path. I have used it several times after the normal gate shut to
upgrade several mini computers used on wheelchairs and for another friends
laptop that has a disability. If I followed you train of thought, I would
not be able to use the site to upgrade others because I don't have a
disability. If you read the definitions for assistive technology - even
the ones MS puts out, they are in such broad terms that a simple mouse could
be considered an assistive technology.

I would not want you to do something that goes against your grain but even
if you call their assistive technology group (as I have), they could care
less about your status and they know it's being used by anyone wanting to
upgrade - hence the no restrictions other than having an upgradeable
operating system. That’s probably why you don't have to attest to needing a
special aid for using a computer. But consider this - do you wear glasses
when using your computer - would that not be an assistive technology? How
about a hearing aid so you can hear what's being said or played on the
computer. I wear glasses and I damn well am at a disadvantage trying to use
a computer without them on my face.

When I used this site and talked with the MS rep, I asked if there was any
difference in the download and was told there is no difference. I burned an
iso and tested upgrading some TechNet Win7 licenses I have in VM's. License
activates as full retail version and nothing in the EULA about it being an
assistive technology *version*.

Where did you get the .iso?
Regular .iso's didn't activate. There's gotta be something I'm missing.

Everything I've found is an online download.

My friend is on dialup and would benefit from the .iso.

You've got to be joking.

Windows 10 is not designed to be maintained on a dialup
connection. It is also not designed to work on old
computers, computers with hard drives, CPUs less than
quad cores, and so on. It's not a pleasant experience
unless you're Bill Gates and have top-flight toys
and facilities for it.

Be glad you're not getting the OS.

The delivery mechanisms Microsoft offers, are intended
to avoid the "unworthy". If you're rural, on weak ADSL
or on dialup, you'll never buy Microsoft's Cloud
Storage package for $70 or whatever. You don't represent
a good enough revenue stream.

So once you get that ISO, what the hell are you going
to do with it ? Yes, the OS will boot, the tiles
will try to download 100MB of stuff to "kick off
their day", and that user ? Sunk. No BW left for
checking the weather or anything else.

Heidoc can give you access to an extensive set of
ISOs. The program offered is a URL generator. You
select what you want, then click one of the two
"copy to clipboard" buttons. Then, flip over to
a real browser, insert the URL from the clipboard,
and start your download. The Techbench URLs from
Microsoft are valid for 24 hours from the point that
you click "Copy to clipboard".

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techno...-download-tool

Download: Windows ISO Downloader.exe
Version: 5.27
Release Date: 20 November 2017
Requirements: Windows 7 or newer, .NET Framework 4.x,
Internet Explorer 8 or newer.

Dismiss the Heidoc window, as soon as you get the URL
and put it in the actual browser for the download.
