I Gotta ask about KB2919355 update.
Yes, some people are having issues, I easily know this. I personally
have two different laptops, VIAO and Dell, one OEM and one the $39.99 download. The only common thread is the OS and the household and I guess mostly ME that does maintenance on them. No nasty registry hacks or cleaners etc., just plain ole defrag and disk cleanup, malwarebytes etc. Both machines had a corrupt component store and both failed to install and I needed to do the DISM .... command to clean it up. My question for the real knowing people: do we know why or what corrupted or can corrupt that store? I'm kinda pointing a finger at me or questioning at least, is there some program I'm using that is screwing with things that make this happen? |

Paul I'll try that, might tell me what it fixed, but I'm interested in what caused the problem. Well, I'm surely not geek enough to read the log. Seems like it was checking the updates store and found issues. It listed a long list of KB####### items. At the end of the list some cleanup failed. In fact, there's no guarantee that a successful cleanup and install of 2919355 and subsequent run of the StartCompnentCleanup command won't re-corrupt the component store. cf. http://thehotfixshare.net/board/inde...howtopic=21423 qp dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup After kb2919355 is installed, you MUST NOT use StartComponentCleanup, as that command actually CAUSES Component Store corruption. /qp Just so all are on the same page.. The StartComponentCleanup method was introduced with Windows 8 and runs automatically. cf. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../dn251565.aspx qp The StartComponentCleanup task was created in Windows 8 to regularly clean up components automatically when the system is not in use. /qp -- ...winston msft mvp consumer apps |

Not entirely - a corrupt component store doesn't necessarily imply that Windows won't function - automatic cleanup since it has been in existence and automatically run for the life of Win8 obviously doesn't cause corruption on every single machine ** Corruption is a cause of the installation failures for 8.1 Update 1. Since 8.1 Updates have been successful it would seem apparent that not all automatic cleanups cause corruption. - the article does not state if the StartComponentCleanup command corrupts the component store every time its run (i.e. it can cause it). Nor did the article claim that it validated the cause. i.e. There's a significant amount of unknowns surrounding this subject, thus its probably appropriate to be aware of it and implement a sound plan to back up the entire o/s on a regular basis. -- ...winston msft mvp consumer apps |

Well either way, I've got a reliable monthly backup running. That's the easy way to solve the issue. If I read all this right, sounds like MS did get the message, now maybe they'll fix it?! One can only hope. |

Thanks, I like your viewpoint, it's more positive than others. I do agree, the PC was running fine, and so was my wife's and we both had a bad store. So yes, it didn't stop it from working which is a good type of bug to have at least. |
