"Control Panel" not working after anniversary update
A friend did the anniversary update (upgrade?) and all went well.
But after the second restart, he could not open the "Control Panel" any more. It opens for a fraction of a second and then closes... Anyone an idea? -- Carpe Diem "Make things as simple as possible, but not simpler" (Albert Einstein). |

Anyone an idea? Do you mean the "Control Panel" (right-click Start to view) ? Or the Settings wheel when you left-click Start ? The second one might well be an App, and those are more poorly behaved than other decorations. App failures in the past, included the Start button, Cortana, lots of decorations in the Task Bar. And those failures have occurred on a clean install (implying no third party interference). Paul |

Anyone an idea? Softpedia has an article about the issue: http://news.softpedia.com/news/windows-apps-closing-immediately-after-windows-10-anniversary-update-install-506930.shtml "For the moment, the only possible workaround that could address this issue is a complete clear and reset of the Windows Store cache, which can be done in just a few minutes with a single command. To try this, simply launch a command prompt window with administrator privileges (right-click the Windows 10 Start menu icon and hit the option that says “Command Prompt (Admin)” - you obviously need to be logged in with administrator privileges) and type the following command: wreset.exe Give it a few minutes to complete and wait. A system reboot when the process comes to an end is also recommended, but not mandatory. If this doesn’t make any difference for now, it’s better to wait until Microsoft looks into these reports and comes up with a fix. The Windows team is hard at work investigating reports of bugs in the Anniversary Update, so it shouldn’t take too long until a patch is released." |
