What are you telling me? "the Win key + "E" ---" ?
Win Key ??
What do you mean with the "+" ?
Are you saying press "+" followed by "E" ?

Thank you! On mine it's Ctrl, Fn, and the logo.

The logo key is the Windows key. If you have an Fn key before it, it's
not a standard keyboard. Is it perhaps a laptop?

The Windows key (or "Win key," as some people call it) is the second
key on the left on the bottom row of a standard keyboard. Hold it
down and press the E key.

Good point. I just can't understand someone downloading several
Mb of video when a 10K html or 2K text file is all that you need.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Showing some maneuvers on a
computer is often much easier and less likely to be misunderstood than
trying to type out a detailed description.

It's a new DELL laptop.

Also, using my powers of telepathy, I
suspect you're trying to do a "downgrade" of a
Windows 8 laptop, to Windows 7. And that's
why you're looking for drivers.

Each company has different rules.

This thread shows Dell supports Windows 8 *Pro* to Windows 7 Pro.

http://en.community.dell.com/support.../19485276.aspx

http://en.community.dell.com/support.../19478077.aspx

On some other brands, downgrade rights are available on
business class machines, but not on home machines. In
which case, you buy a business class machine. Maybe the
business machine comes with Pro and that's why they do it.

Then, there is the issue of media. A Dell DVD will
install with automatic activation, which is why some
users might prefer such.

http://en.community.dell.com/support....aspx#20305037

"You should be able to phone Dell Technical Support and
request a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with Service Pack 1
Reinstallation DVD. This DVD can be used for downgrade rights and
will automatically input the Dell SLP key and activate when installed
via the Dell BIOS. Unfortunately there is no online form outside
the US and you will have to phone technical support. How much they
charge seems to be at the discretion of the support agent you are
in contact with. This has lead to various results, including
refusal of media, a £60 charge or getting it for free
"

The DVD might not be perfectly generic, as it would be
handy to have drivers for the new OS. If the DVD is
specifically for that machine, maybe they're included.
Or, maybe a separate CD includes drivers. You'd need to ask
for such details to be sure.

Downgrade rights, mean you get the new OS "for free". But
of course, by having to pay for "Pro" version of OS,
you're effectively paying something for your downgrade.
Pro probably costs more than some other option. There
has to be a catch.

If you bought a Win8 laptop with Home on it say, you
would return it and buy the same laptop with Pro, then
look for the Downgrade details. Something like that.
As convoluted as they can possibly make it.

HTH,
Paul

as I said earlier, I am sorry for being such a nuisance to you
knowledgeable folks.

The nuisance isn't your questions per se. It's that you make absolutely
no effort to find an answer on your own, that you don't provide an
complete description of your problems, that you don't divulge details
even when directly asked, that you don't acknowledge responses that
people take their valuable time to research and give to you, and that
you multipost the same question to many different groups so nobody can
see each others answers.

Other than that you're swell.

And let's not forget that the guy claims to have a great many years of
computer experience but doesn't know what WIN key combos are and still uses
AOL. Judging from his questions I would have guessed that Win8 is his first
exposure to computers.

When I was still working, many programmers on the mainframe didn't know
much about a "personal computer" other than as a terminal hookup; some
still don't know some of the "basics". Probably unix types don't
know much about the windows type pc as well.

Lots of working people are only allowed to use the spreadsheet & a word
processor, canned of course. Consider that sysadmin types now only
allow users to do very limited stuff on the computer outside of the
installed applications; it's for "security" & not allowing the
company users to "mess" with the computer so that the users can do
a better job. If an app isn't supplied, it cannot be installed by
the users.......as in if a manager gets a zipped file from a client
& an unzipper wasn't installed....interesting in what the manager
will do.....
