System Restore Points Lost
Hi,
If there are not available restore points available on the System Restore calendar, then there is no getting them back. Here are some tip on troubleshooting missing restore points: http://bertk.mvps.org/html/missingrps.html Let's also take a look at Event Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently that may help us diagnose the problem. Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter. Click on System in the left pane. Click the gray title “Source” at the top of the source name column in the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice". Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two event here. There’s no need to post duplicate Event ID’s. How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs? http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html#EventViewer -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://bertk.mvps.org $WoOdY$ wrote: Some how my system restore pionts got deleted. how can this happen and how can i get them back. please help. thank you |

Well,
I found out what I did wrong. While I was troubleshooting something other things (e.g. Selective Startup was used to trouble the system. Unchecking “Load System Services” on the General tab in the System Configuration Utility (Msconfig) disables the “System Restore Service” and turns System Restore off. Deleting all existing restore points. To work around this, use the Services tab instead and don’t uncheck the System Restore Service.) So thats what happend. Thank you Bert for he help Quote:

Sometimes my restore points get completely removed. I use antispyware cleaners, but even when i wasnt using them i lost a couple of points. I am not creating too many, just a few, but they just sometimes get deleted. I tried installing Roxio GoBack to help this, but my Sony Vaio DEFINATLY didnt like it and promptly crashed and would not boot. Dean Cooper "Bert Kinney" wrote: Thanks for the feedback. System Restore Points Lost
Cheers, Bert. Actually, i think i found the problem.
It seems that one of my cleaners WAS deleating the points. I changed from AntispywarePro to Sureclean professional and it is fine. Darn! I just checked my restore points and there is now only ONE which was made by windows defender. So the problem still exists. Maybe this is another excuse to look at Linux. System Restore Points Lost
Hi Dean,
I am assuming you went through the previous link I provided, and the system is free of virus and malware infection. Uninstall Antispyware Pro and keep in eye on restore points. If the problem persists, I would suggest performing a clean boot to narrow down the culprit. How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310353 How to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=316434 How to troubleshoot by using the System Configuration utility in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310560 -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://bertk.mvps.org Dean wrote: Cheers, Bert.
