Default Installing SP2

My questiion is: They say you should get the latest updates on your computer
before installing SP2. Here is my delemma. I have the disk to install SP2. If
I try to update the computer to get the latest update before installing SP2,
SP2 trys to download and I do not want this to happen on a dial up. The
computer I want to install SP2 on only has dialup. How can I get the latest
update on the computer and keep SP2 form installing itself? TIA.

They meant updates to things like your graphics card, printer, etc., not
Windows Update. Install SP2 and then go to Windows Update for the rest.

How large is the file you are trying to install?

SP2 will only fit on a CD, it's can be as large as 200 + MB.

It sound like you only have the setup file that will go out to the internet
to download and install the service pack.

Thanks Alias and Bob for your answers. Alias, you answered my question. I
thought that it meant windows updates...I guess I wasn't thinking of the
updates for the other hardware. Have a good day.

You are OK. You went to Windows Update and if any critical updates were not
yet pplied, you would have seen those updates instead of SP2.

There are some other recommended steps listed here before you install:

Ignore that advice. SP2 will install everything up to the date it was
finalised. So do that first. Then go after further updates - there are
only a few since it came out

You can go through manually and do it by going to these folders

windows\prefectch
windows\temp

documents and settings %user% local settings (make sure hidden
files and foders are off) temp, temporary internet folders, and
cookies.

or you can go here which is a great utility,

http://www.ccleaner.com/

will have issues if you have private folders though.
