WinXP emailer won't open .GIF attachments ??

WinXP mailers won't open .GIF attachments ??
They opens JPG files fine.

I first noticed this over a year ago, but didn't have
time to get to the bottom of this. I thought perhaps
it was just a fluke limited to one machine, but now
it seems that all XP machines I send .GIF pictures to
can't open them. (People don't tend to mention this,
I have to ask them.)

(I send the email with Eudora 5.2. No other platform has
this problem.)

One XP user said she fixed the problem by editing her registry,
then save the attachment, then open it with another viewer.
(She also said it wouldn't open ZIP or EXE files.)

I call that a work-around.
Is there a real fix for this?
(For example, Eudora does not auto-open attachments,
but on-click, opens them with yer default viewer (Irfanview)).

XP is not an email program. Outlook Express, that comes with XP is. Email
programs don't open email attachments, they are opened by the program that
the attachments file type is associated with. Associate gifs with whatever
program you want to use to open them.

XP is not an email program. Outlook Express, that comes with XP is.

Irrelevant. ...as I suspected. It's all mish-mashed together.

I can't put it any simpler. I repeat:

This includes Outlook Express and Outlook.

Apparently some people have a problem with it, but it's not that
common. Certainly not ALL, as you imply.
