AdwCleaner vs MBAM (PUP...)
I thought I'd give AdwCleaner a try. MBAM had detected a slight malware
problem. PUP.Optional.CrossRider.A. It wasn't caught. Any suggestions? What are R0, R1, and S0. |

For PUP.Optional.CrossRider.A 1: AdwCleaner 2: MBAM 3: HitmanPro (if necessary) HitmanPro (30 day free trial) http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro And possibly, reset your browsers. AdwCleaner vs MBAM (PUP...)

Doesn't MBAM give the location (path and file) for the PUP? That might indicate if it is an unwanted or covert PUP or something that you actually chose to install. Most anti-malware programs still list many of the Nirsoft utilities as PUPs but *I* installed those because *I* want to use them. PUP means *probably* or *potentially* unwanted program. That's a guess and the user may actually want the program. It is still up to you to decide if the target is really unwanted. You gave no path and file for the PUP. http://www.malwareremovalguides.info...-crossrider-a/ PUPs aren't always bad. You have to decide. That MBAM says there is a PUP present doesn't make it so. MBAM looks in the registry to detect programs but those might've been long ago uninstalled so what MBAM sees are registry remnants. If MBAM is using a registry entry to detect a PUP, presumably that registry entry (or others that are dependent upon that one) will specify a path to an executable file or DLL (a library of function from which one can be called by a parent program, like rundll32.exe). It wasn't caught. Then how did you know about the PUP? How did you know it was called Crossrider PUP? What are R0, R1, and S0. Three 2-character strings that mean nothing outside of their context. |

You scan first, to see if there is an issue or not. Paul |
