XP Pro Problem

I've just returned from a weeks holiday. Before I went
away my PC was running with no problems.

However on my return I can't boot it up. I get a screen
giving me the options of starting in safe mode etc,
however whatever action I take the machine closes down and
re-starts again. If I leave it it just goes around in a
loop until I switch the power off.

Any ideas?

Boot to Safemode, and look at your Event Viewer to see who screwed up your
PC while you were out.

No one will have used the PC for a week. My problem is
that if I do try and boot in Safemode the computer starts
to load up and then creases before I can action anything
