Default USB2 cardbus prob

I'm trying to connect a Freecom classic external dvd rw to
my medion notebook running xp pro (with all updates &
service packs installed) via a Startech CBUSB2 pcmica
card. The drive works fine (but slow) when connected via
the built in usb ports. When connected to the usb2 card,
the drive initalizes but no data is written and eventually
I get a write error message. I've used Stomp, Roxio and
Nero 6 to burn dvd's none work on this card. The notebook
bios is up to date and all drivers are installed. This
problem is starting to become frustrating - if anyone has
any suggestions please e-mail me at
. Thank you!!!
