Default XP or 2000? Are my employers about to make a bad mistake

We are just about to have new computers at work. HOOOORAY!!! We currently run
Win98 on all our machines (expect the server), however my employers are
considering putting Windows 2000 on the new computers and not Win XP. Does
anyone think that this is a good move?

Why upgrade to something that's 5 or 6 years old? Talk about running behind
the times! Windows XP does what 2000 does and more, so there's no reason
not to.

Windows 2000 general support is ending this month. After a certain day, you
would need to have an extended support contract.

Windows XP is much better than Windows 2000 anyway and most software now
works correctly with XP.

I certainly agree with the other posters -- XP is a far superior product. I
imagine your employers may be choosing 2000 because it's been on the market
longer, and has had that much more time to be tested, bug-checked, and
patched. I can understand this standpoint, but in this case it's really not
necessary. XP has been out for, what, three years? I can't quite
remember -- but it's been out a while, is more stable than any MS OS I've
ever worked with, boots faster, runs applications faster, is compatible with
more software, has a larger PNP driver database, manages memory better, is
more customizable, and generally runs better and is more user-friendly than
any previous version.

Going to Win2k isn't going to end the world, but it's a puzzling decision.
You should tell your employer to ask around in the tech community -- this is
a viewpoint shared by the vast majority.

Go with XP PRO. 2000 still has a bug according to eeye group. Here is the
website. I dual-boot with 98SE and XP PRO. and 98SE rocks and meets all of
my individual as well as corporate needs for my business. I still am
learning the NT source code but have a good grasp of the 9x source code. The
advantages of 98SE over 98FE is that you can get USB 2.0 from third parties,
better driver management, more software support, more hardware support, WMP 9
if you want it, etc.

Sorry! Thought I read, somewhere on web, that support is stopping this
month.

You should tell them to can the 2000 and install WFW 3.11 since they sound
like cheapskates.

If that is what your employers want, and they aren't asking for your
opinion, I wouldn't try to talk them out of it, because if you do, the
slightest problems they have with XP [Remember, there is no such thing
as a perfect OS] they will blame you.

Kurt do you use Linux, XP Pro., 98SE, Apple or something else for your
computer and please state your reasons why you like each. Thanks in advance!
Your method of thinking intrigues me.

Mainly, I use 2K, but I post here from XP just to **** off those that
are already ****ed off at me for my opinion here.

I use 2K because I have a lot of money invested in hardware and software
that won't work in any other non-MS OS, and I have a lot of time and
effort invested in self-teaching myself how to use a PC with a MS OS.

Ask them why they would buy a used car instead of a new one from the
same manufacturer and still pay about the same price?
If they still want to buy the used one my advice to you would be to
change jobs immediately if not sooner.
