How keep Window sizes the way I want?

My default Window size is too big for many of the windows - so I resize
them. But, when I go back to the window, the size has not remained the way
I set it. How can I accomplish this? Also, is there a way to increase the
number of windows that will use the default view? Thanks.........

PS: Also, sometimes when I reboot, my windows have changed from 'List' to
'Icon'. Is there a fix for this? Thanks again.........

I did replay to you question but; power failure in my house.

open the window the way you want..now hold the control key and the same time
close the window (the red box with a x) with you mouse....now open the window
and sould be the size you want :-)
