And I will miss Vista and buy a new computer when Windows 7 is released. I
just hope that Microsoft will release it in 2009.

That will be about two (2) years from now.

Actually this was intended to be a reply in a topic, but I made a mistake by
posting it separately.

Future versions of Windows always are always WONDERFUL. But of course once
Windows 7 is released it will be so terrible that you will want to hang on
to Vista because it is so WONDERFUL while you wait for Windows 8 because it
will be so much MORE wonderful.

What's with all this emotional attachment to operating systems? Use what
works for you. Most folks aren't using one tenth of what was already in
Win95, much less what's in XP, Vista, or what will be in Windows Wonderful.

Spend your time on your applications. That's what its all about anyway.

First time I can remember seeing anyone online say that! AGREED!

When my friends want to go computer shopping, they want me to go with
them. They wanna do Internet, some word processing, a lot of email,
watch some youtube videos and not much else.

I help them find the simplest machine I can find for them.
Salespersons hate me.

A machine built 5 years ago would do everything they need quite
nicely.

Technology enthusiasts like us too often over-recommend.

Manufacturers too often over-BUILD.

I recently helped a friend buy a new, custom-configured Dell with a
19" LCD monitor and all that she needed to do what she wanted to do.

Vista Home Basic, Microsoft Office Student Edition ($149), a 19" LCD
monitor, power bar and 1gig thumb drive plus S&H... it came up nearly
$300 cheaper than the same case model (thin tower) that Best Buy had
on the shelf - WITHOUT a MONITOR or the other items I listed.
