Drag n drop
Just updated two pcs to Win10. All more or less went well. One was clean
install, 2nd was upgrade. Both seem ok but there were a couple of issue with the clean install, namely Network Explorer would not dhow other pcs on network. Now fixed. What I am finding irritating is the inability to drag and drop something from the start menu onto my desktop. Is this by design and can I circumvent it somehow? I also miss the Propeties dialog that allowed you to Open File Location if need be to actually easily find the file the shortcut refers to. Any easy method for that info? |

Providing it's not a TIFKAM app, you can right click the entry in start, and click more open file location then you can copy shortcut to desktop |

I had never encountered this issue and tried dragging and dropping random things from Start onto the desktop to see if you were correct. I dragged my Photos icon and it created a shortcut automatically as it did with the Thunderbird icon I moved. As for the second, I right-clicked an icon on my desktop to see if properties still said what the location of the application was and it did. As a result, I have no idea what you're referring to in both cases. |

I have a variation of that. One PC will not show its presence on the network, not even to itself. This can be corrected, however there are several reason for it not to appear. The homegroups have been removed from the Current version of Windows 10. Sometimes the old Homegroup masked the ownership of the various folders and files, etc. that appeared on the Local area net work. Under the previous versions of Windows 10 I always had permission problems ie the account/owner that gave the share permision was not the account/owner that gave access to the internet. I finally got every account/owner straight and have not problems with sharing the files on my desktop and laptop. I still need to work through the problem with my tablet. However the table is low priority, as I can transfer the files I want using a bluetooth connection. It will take time but can be resolved -- Judge your ancestors by how well they met their standards not yours. They did not know your standards, so could not try to meet them. |

That sound familiar. I must look more deeply into permissions. I finally got every account/owner straight and have not problems with sharing the files on my desktop and laptop.
