I just built a computer and installed XP on it. At first, autoplay
would recognize the card reader when plugged into the USB port and give me the choice to download pictures, print them, etc. After installing and then uninstalling a piece of software that had the ability to be an Autoplay event, now the USB card reader isn't recognized all the time by Autoplay (see below). I spent an hour Googling and found that Autoplay is a very common headache for people. I tried autofix from MS. No dice. I tried making sure the card reader was still enabled for downloading, etc. I tried erasing autoplay handlers from the registry as recommended in a few other places. Nothing has helped. Here's a peculiarity: I have multiple users setup on this machine under XP. The FIRST USER to login does not have autoplay working with the card reader (EVER), but Autoplay works for ANY SUBESQUENT USER. So, if I boot up and login Joe, Autoplay won't work for Joe. Leave Joe logged in and login as Jane, and Autoplay works for Jane. But, log both of them off, then log Jane in first again, and Autoplay is busted for Jane. Login Joe while Jane is still logged in and again, Autoplay works for Joe. By the way: CD Autoplay still works all the time. Anyone have any clue what might be going on here?
