not only is it very possible on ios, but you've been told exactly how
many, many times, each time ignoring what you were told and going off
on a mindless rant.

you give a free pass to what you call a 'different mechanism' in linux
(whatever that is supposed to be), but refuse to accept a different
mechanism in ios.

Hi nospam,

For the benefit of the permanent Usenet record...

You get away with your pure fabrication of functionality on Apple ngs
.. Becasue the Apple user is, essentially, too stupid to comprehend facts.

But you won't get away with your fabrication of functionality here, nospam.
.. I know you well where, the simplest way to summarize you is:

"You _hate_ what iOS is, so much that you incessantly fabricate
imaginary functionality for what iOS lacks, and when you can't,
you incessantly contrive all sorts of excuses for why iOS lacks
the basic functionality that every other common consumer OS enjoys."

For the benefit of this newsgroup, there are 3 types of apologists:

.. *Type I apologist* === Parrots Apple MARKETING dogma at all costs
(but actually doesn't believe almost anything he says himself)
(you can tell he knows what he's saying by his use of clever wording)
(just as Apple did when they blamed batteries for secret throttling)

.. *Type II apologists* === these are simply ignorant, e.g., Steve Scharf
(they're much like Mayayana is, where they're just incredibly ignorant)
(in fact, they often make all their decisions based on pure intuition)
(they literally filter out facts since their beliefs aren't fact based)

.. *Type III apologists* === these are Dunning Kruger Quadrant I (no doubt!)
(typical TYPE III apologists are Jolly Roger, Snit, Alan Baker, et al.)
(they actually _believe_ what they write - which is the scary part)
(they're fantastically immune to facts no matter what the facts may be)

Consider Type I apologists no different than an agent of Apple MARKETING.
Consider Type II apologists no different from Mayayana (purely intuitive).
Consider Type III apologists no different from the lemon-juice bank robber.

you give a free pass to what you call a 'different mechanism' in linux
(whatever that is supposed to be), but refuse to accept a different
mechanism in ios.

We're all on to your fabrication of imaginary functionality nospam
.. Where you're shockingly sadistic in how you lead innocent people astray

Whenever we ask you to prove what you say, you can't.
.. That is, you _always_ fail the "name just one" test of pure bull****

Worse, you're sadistic in how you send innocent users astray
.. Which you did, to me, years ago, before I figured all you apologists out

Why do the Apple Apologists constantly send poor unsuspecting iOS users on
wild goose chases?

Yes, but why are you _wanting_ such input: what is your _reason_ for
wanting such?

Because he gets caught out regularly in other forums by pretending he
understands this stuff.

On comp.sys.mac.advocacy, he went on endlessly about how he had a system
for synching his contacts across devices...

....and then ran to the Android groups to find out how he could make his
lie into truth.

| file viewer, that does not work off of explorer.

That's an interesting point. I've noticed in the past,
working with the Shell object API that represents
Explorer's view of folders, different kinds of files are
invisible on different systems. Sometimes hidden files
don't get listed, even if they're visible. In other cases
..drv or .sys files are not listed when returning folder
contents. Weird stuff.

But I don't think that any decent file search program
would use Explorer API. It's not only faulty. It's also very
slow. It's designed for dealing with what shows in the
GUI, not what's stored on disk. Looking at Agent Ransack,
it's using many of the Rtl* driver API methods from kernel32,
which seem to be even more low-level than the basic
FindFirstFile/FindNextFile functions. Whatever it's doing,
it's incredibly fast.

of the NT platform in case I decide to use it one day which seems
unlikely so far.

Hi Apd,

I could tell you were an adult, where what that means is that a logical &
reasonable conversation can occur which contains nuances of detail, and
natural differences of opinion or use models.

To that end, thanks for patiently explaining your situation, as I too have
old OS's lying about, e.g., I still have Vista and Windows 7 (on my hard
drives and in Grub menus galore!) and, there's even an old WinXP 500MB RAM
Dell laptop masquerading as a desktop simply because it's what I had
connected to the scanner since birth.

That old WinXP laptop came in handy, as it proved I could easily copy the
EXACT accordion-style cascaded WinXP start menu over from WinXP to Windows
10 and it WORKED just fine (with minor corrections due to changes over
time).

Notice that I've had the same menu structure for ages, simply because we
all do the _same_ things with our computers and phones, where we "browse"
and we "edit", such that my hierarchy has remained almost the same for
decades on _all_ my computers (mobile devices, desktops, or laptops).

philosophy*

While I use even shorter words, and I never use plurals, and I stick with
lower-case, underscored if necessary, 8-character if possible names, here's
a simplified description of, oh, say, just my "editor" hierarchy:
https://i.postimg.cc/wMpGKBFF/winsearch05.jpg

1. Here's where I _save_ my downloaded freeware editor installers:
C:\software\editors\{see list below}
2. Here's where I _install_ those editors, on each machine in turn:
C:\apps\editors\{see list below}
3. Here's the _menu_ hierarchy (aka toolbar) pinned to the task menu:
taskbar menu editors {see list below}
etc.

And here's a shortened list of the "editors" in that hierarchy:
(bearing in mind an "editor" is treated the same as a "viewer")
c:\ cd editors
c:\ dir /b
... android
... audio
... cad
... calendar
... codec
... convert
... downloader
... epub
... hex
... icon
... passwd
... pic
... pspdf
... screenrec
... snapshot
... suite
... txt
... vector
... vid
... exif
... watermark

As the a.c.f folks are well aware, there are _many_ ways to organize apps.
o For example, here's just the first subdirectory in that list above
https://i.postimg.cc/DfrNrqyN/winsearch06.jpg
c:\ cd editors\android
c:\ dir /b
... adb
... app
... cpu
... emu
... gra
... how
... ide
... jre
... mtp
... sdk
... sql
... vid

I set up all computing devices by functionality, e.g., for Android:
https://i.postimg.cc/66nkNWg5/winsearch04.jpg

My main point is that we all do the same things on our computers
.. Where one of those things, is *search* for stuff....

To that end, these are my current freeware search apps for testing out:
https://i.postimg.cc/zXpPM8hS/winsearch07.jpg
c:\ cd database\search
c:\ dir /b
... agentransack == a bunch of users recommended this for content
... astrogrep
... auslogics
... copernic
... docfetcher
... everything == almost everyone recommends everything
... exselo
... filesearchex
... fileseek
... googledesktop
... grepwin
... jetsearch
... lansearchpro
... launchy
... listary
... locate32
... lookeen
... malich
... puggle
... quicksearch
... registryfinder
... searchmyfiles
... ultrasearch

Any help adults can purposefully helpfully provide, is always welcome.
o I trust adults on Usenet more than I trust many so-called reviews.

Based on post to that thread, it seems this communication sums it up best:
Ransack : 52 hits in ten minutes
*From Explorer, after one hour , four hits...search nowhere near complete

I just did a file search with Search Everything.
It found all the matching files on three physical drives in less than one second.

I use Agent Ransack only for finding text within files.
For file name searches, Search Everything is *much* faster.

Both seem to be keepers:
a) Search Everything (which shows up in a lot of reviews)
b) Agent Ransack (which shows up in almost zero reviews)

Reading the experiences of others reduces the high cost of freeware.
