Are any of you getting the "We need to fix your Microsoft account"message?
After the Win 10 2004 update installation, most everything went pretty
well, but I did start getting this error message: "Microsoft account problem. We need to fix your Microsoft account before you can use shared experiences" Did anyone else get this message recently? If you did I did find the solution he What means "We need to fix your Microsoft account"?? - Microsoft Community https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...24ecd1a?auth=1 It seems like Windows is forcing you to link your email account to your Windows login. I have specifically avoided doing this, but when you try to fix the problem the standard way, it tries to link your email account to your Windows userid. If you don't want to do that, then try the solution in the message above. Yousuf Khan |

I haven't fixed it, and it's been doing that for months. I fell for its charms the first time, logged in with my MSA (which is part of using the Insider), and while the error went away, it's come back. I'm pretty happy to let stuff like this, flap in the breeze. Paul |

Was this on Home or Pro ? I run Pro and did not get it. It was on Pro. And actually one of the solutions to fix this involves using the Group Policy Editor, which is only available on Pro, I believe. Yousuf Khan |

I’ve been getting variants on the ‘fix Microsoft account’ for at least 18 months, probably over 2 years. I’ve been ignoring the messages. Messages have shown on Pro and Education installs, I don’t have any Home installs and can’t comment there. I always use a ‘local’ account instead of a Microsoft account. This means no Insider for me, which is a Good Thing(™). Also no, or reduced, or something, Microsoft Store, which as I don’t use the Microsoft Store is something I don’t care about. Note that Microsoft is making it harder and harder to use ‘local’ accounts instead of Microsoft accounts. I suspect that one day soon they’ll just kill local accounts. That day is the day that I freeze my systems, keep using local accounts, and drive on, possibly converting to Ubuntu if Microsoft tries to force the issue by not letting security updates through without a Microsoft Account. |

I think Education is a cheap version of Pro. Probably cheaper than Home, despite being much more functional. Yousuf Khan |

I get the feeling that this error is actually on purpose, they randomly send the error out to various users who they notice haven't linked their online and offline accounts together, so they have to go through the "solution" of having to link their accounts together. Once they link the two accounts, then they can begin to spy on you (even more so than usual). Having an online account as your local machine login is extremely short-sighted (nothing new for Microsoft), as you don't want to have to rely on a flaky network just to login to your own machine. Everything is fine until your network starts to act up. The account may fall back to its original local-only characteristics, but what if the passwords between the online and offline accounts aren't the same, and you've forgotten your old offline passwords, because you're used to the network login? Yousuf Khan I think I was using netplwiz and automatically entering the password, to get around having to enter the MSA. That at least solves bootup. I think Sleep still prompts for a password, and I didn't find an easy way to get around typing in the extra-long MSA stuff. And 2004, I must be missing something, because Netplwiz doesn't have the tick box on mine. They also removed the two easy hacks, to give you Admin at bootup. That was fixed in 1909 I think. Security is gradually being tightened, for some reason. Paul |

Microsoft is a US corporation and it will do anything to protect the interest of the United States of America.Â* You may know this that one of your followers killed 3 people on Saturday,Â* one of which was a US citizen.Â* The killer was called "Khairi Saadallah" and police found his links to somebody called Yousuf Khan.Â* Khairi was in constant contact with somebody called Yousuf in Canada so now it's a matter of time when this guy called Yousuf is caught and extradited to United Kingdom to face British Justice. -- With over 1.2 billion devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |
