Default corrupt fonts problem

I have this rather odd font problem:

It seems that hitherto correct font families suddenly have turned corrupt. There are some nice oddities:

it are entire font families that turn corrupt (I am not yet completely sure about this, but I haven't found a single font that was corrupt, e.g. if the 'lucida sans typ' font turned corrupt, the 'lucida sans typ ita' will be corrupt too, actually the entir
e 'lucida sans typ' family, even though they are in sperate font files). This behavior is medium independent (the example comes from a font collection on cd-rom

The above is not entirely true: all those 'lucida sans typ' fonts are indeed corrupt, yet the font 'lucida sans typ cursief' (which is the dutch equivalent of 'lucida sans typ italic') isn't. This is the only example I have, it's the only font that happene
d to be there twice, one dutch and one english. But I haven't found a singel 'dutch' font that was corrupt.

I would very much appreciate some help, and I be glad to provide more information.

Sincere regards
Batist

Thank you for the response, but alas it didn't work. Currently I'm managing around with knoppix, but I'm still looking for a more permanent solution.

Thank you
