Default Windows XP- Need Help

Hello,

I recently moved and have a dell inspiron 8500 and the hard drive was damaged and since I paid exra had the complete care warranty on it and they shipped me out a new drive but no Operating System and I can not find my Dell recovery discs so I called Dell
and they told me that there is no way for me to download it and they can only mail out replacement discs within 30 days of purchase her advice was to buy a brand new Win XP CD that in my mind I have already paid for. Does anyone have any ideas on how to
solve this problem? I just dont feel like I should have too pay for a cd version when I have my license and already paid for the software there has to be somewhere I can download it and make a bootable cd to install it...all help will be appreciated.....t

If you have a friend with a similar Dell, use their CDs with your number.

Otherwise, get the CDs shipped.. Dell is usually a LOT faster than they tell
you.

And this time - tape them to the inside of your computer case when you are
done installing.

Are you always so careless with things that 'in your mind' you have paid
for? Would you expect Dell to send out a new keyboard or mouse in the event
that you lost either item?.. of course, a Win XP cd will cost way more than
a new keyboard and mouse, but that is why you should have exercised more
care with the recovery cds.. and no, there is nowhere that you can download
XP.. maybe when you buy a retail or OEM version, you may just be a little
more careful..

Mike,

Actually yes I would expect that of them.......I purchased the complete care warranty and it is advertised as replacement for anything and everything and have never had to use it till now so yes in my mind I paid for the OS originally when I purchased the
system and feel that the recovery CD's sgould be included in my complete care warranty....IMO just one more reason not to buy again from Dell and it isn't like this is a bare bones system I paid top dollar for it and just like a car warranty I would expect
Dell to honor their commitments

The problem is - they ARE offering to replace them, you said. They are not
refusing that - they are giving you options because they assume you will be
impatient about the 30 days. I hope you did tell them to ship them.

No you misunderstood they did NOT offer to replace them....They said they would only replace them within 30 days of the initial purchase.......but I yelled a lot yesterday and I received my disc overnighted to me today and am reinstalling as we speak.

The problem was the initial person I spoke with made the mistake saying that Dell supervisor stated that I could have as many discs as I needed although I am sure he was joking regarding this
