Default Windows Update Error 0x80072EFD
Hello,

Whenver I try to use Windows Update I get the following
message. I have tried all of the suggested listed on this
and other newsgroups but nothing works. I don't have a
firewall, other than the Windows Firewall that came with
SP2. I have copied my windows update log. Thanks for
your help

Default Windows Update Error 0x80072EFD

Fyi, microsoft.public.windowsupdate is a better newsgroup for
Windows Update questions.


Some trouble shooting step for error 0x80072EFD here (I would think
the most likely cause for your error is a Proxy/Firewall configuration
error):

When accessing the Windows Update site, you receive the 0x80072EFD error.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=16&ln=en


You should also try the steps he

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you
receive the 0x8024402C, 0x80240030 or 0x8024502d error.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=26&ln=en


You might need to use proxycfg.exe (see link above) to either set
or remove a proxy server configuration:

Open a command prompt (Start/Run and then "cmd.exe" without the
quotes").

Run this command to see what proxy configuration WU uses:

proxycfg


If you don't have a proxy, you will need status

Direct access (no proxy server).


If it reports anything else, to set direct access:

proxycfg -d


To get more help on proxycfg:

proxycfg -?

Default Windows Update Error 0x80072EFD
Re-register the WU components:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type "regsvr32 wuapi.dll" (without the quotation marks), and then click
OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message,
click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat inputting the following
commands and click OK after each command.
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuauserv.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 iuengine.dll
