(without a complete reformat) Whether you are upgrading from XP Home or any other qualifying operating system, yes you can use a Full version to perform an upgrade. However, be sure it's actually a Full version; many people confuse the OEM version with the Full Retail version; an OEM version can *not* do an upgrade. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |

winXP pro full version vs. upgrade
With respect to whether I have the OEM version or the Full version.....I'm
pretty sure I have the Full version.....I bought it in a store in a box and it says "For PC's with Windows 95 or earlier, or for PC's without Windows." That's the Full version, right? I have a Windows '98 computer I would like to upgrade with this version of XP. Thanks for your help! Yes, you should be having the Full version. The Full version is also
considerably more expensive than the upgrade version. hank2345 wrote: With respect to whether I have the OEM version or the Full version.....I'm pretty sure I have the Full version.....I bought it in a store in a box and it says "For PC's with Windows 95 or earlier, or for PC's without Windows." Hi, however the upgrade version can perform a 'clean' install on a blank
hard drive, just as you would a full version..... Chris C "ngch" wrote in message ... Yes, you should be having the Full version. With respect to whether I have the OEM version or the Full version..... You're confusing things a bit. All OEM licenses are "Full" versions, meaning that no earlier OS need be present to perform an installation. Retail licenese come in two varieties: "Full," and "Upgrade," which requires the presence of an earlier, qualifying OS for installation. I'm pretty sure I have the Full version.....I bought it in a store in a box and it says "For PC's with Windows 95 or earlier, or for PC's without Windows." That's the Full version, right? I have a Windows '98 computer I would like to upgrade with this version of XP. Thanks for your help! You're correct. This is the description of a Retail Full version. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace. Yes, that's the Full version, and you should be OK using it for an upgrade. Unfortunately, though, you spent more than you needed to, since the Upgrade version would have done just as well for you. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup "Ken Blake" wrote: In , deborah typed: Can one upgrade WinXP Home from the Full version of WinXP Pro or is the upgrade version absolutely necessary?
