Moving XP to Win10 for already installed Microsoft Office 2007
I have a very old 500MB RAM (yes, that old) WinXP laptop which is so old
the disc drive, display and battery died long ago, which I keep around just for the already installed Microsoft Office 2007, which I rarely use except, maybe a few times a year when I need to edit a Microsoft Office document, usually using Word, PowerPoint, or Excel. I know there are many clones but I am not asking for a replacement. I just want to move the current Microsoft Office to a Windows 10 PC. The Microsoft Office 2007 Word says it's "part of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007" which I probably got from a corporate install many years ago where I no longer work for that company where I probably got it from. If I want to port that long ago activated Microsoft Office 2007 to a new machine via a USB flash stick, what do I have to do to get all the activation numbers and software installation off the current Windows XP laptop? |

I have a very old 500MB RAM (yes, that old) WinXP laptop You mean 512MB The Microsoft Office 2007 Word says it's "part of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007" which I probably got from a corporate install many years ago where I no longer work for that company where I probably got it from. Have you got a serial number for it? and do you know if it is Volume Licensed? Volume Licensed products never required activation but it did require serial/product number. Assuming you have a serial number and possibly the installation disk then it is just a matter of installing on Windows 10 and it should work. However, if it requires activation then you are likely to have problems because Office 2007 is no longer supported by Microsoft and the activation servers might have been closed down. You can still try it as some people are still able to activate XP operating System despite the fact that it was unsupported since 2014. Office 2007 because a dud since 2017, The rule is Microsoft supports a product for 10 years after which you need to buy a new license if the activation servers are no longer operational. No body has challenged Microsoft yet about this so there is nothing you can do about it. If I want to port that long ago activated Microsoft Office 2007 to a new machine via a USB flash stick, what do I have to do to get all the activation numbers and software installation off the current Windows XP laptop? Your best bet is to get Office 365 on for your Windows 10 machine. It is a subscription model but the fee is nominal for single machine. You say you are using Word, Excel and PowerPoint so you can get Office 365 Personal (single device) for about $60 USD or £60 GBP or you could get Office 365 Home for £80 and this can be installed on up to 6 devices and you also get Access and Publisher with it in the same subscription. Office 2007 still works in Windows 10 but this can't be guaranteed with monthly updates coming in Windows 10. things can stop working without any advance notice. Microsoft doesn't need to give you any advance notice about products that are no longer supported. -- With over 950 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |

I remember about ten years or thereabouts I reinstalled the MS Office that is there now where all I needed to do was give it the key that was written on the cd my corporate IT guy at the time gave me to install it, so I know it works off just typing in an activation key but I can't find that original cd disk (or maybe I gave it back to the IT guy). In Word 2007 I click the round flag at the top left of the ribbon to go to Word Options and then to Resources and then the About button tells me it's Microsoft Office Word 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO and then it says Part of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. It also says This product is licensed to bill Product ID shows 5 numbers, dash, 3 numbers, dash, 7 numbers, dash and finally 5 numbers (XXXXX-XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXX) The Activate button says This product has already been activated. |

You can get the product key by using a tool from this link: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html#DownloadLinks Make sure you are downloading the correct version - 32 bit or 64 bit. This only gives you the product/Serial Number and Yes this is all you need to "activate" the license automatically. As I said, a volume Licensed product never required activation in those days. However, you need to have the installation disk as well. There are sites on line that can be used to download but I can't guarantee if they will accept the serial number you have because Volume Licensed products were "DIFFERENT" from retail licenses for home users. https://pcguide4u.com/download-microsoft-office-2007-enterprise/ The above link gives you the download link as well as the product serial number so you can try it. However, DON'T BLAME ME if it doesn't work. I am only using Office 365 subscription so I can activate/deactivate a license by logging into my account at Microsoft. -- With over 950 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |
