computer will only boot in safe mode

I am running windows xp home edition on a six month old E
mahcines computer; as of late yesterday, my computer will
only boot into safe mode, no matter what I do. System
restore did not help. Any thoughts would be appreciated;
my desktop might as well be dead in the water, as I
cannot get on line, cannot print, etc.
