Default receiving faxes manually

i have just configured my fax settings and have one phone
line for voice and fax, so instead of setting it up to
automatically receive, i set it up for manual receipt.

when an attempt was made to send me a fax, i dutifully
went to my fax console and hit "receive a fax now." the
monitor read that the call was answered, then that the
fax was being received, then that an error occured while
receiving the fax. any ideas? thanks!

That's one of about four or five problems that folks complain about daily
which we really don't have an answer for. Its part of a list that includes:

"The fax console reports a 'fatal error - retries exceeded', but never
attempts to dial the modem"

"I can send/receive one fax successfully, but I have to reboot my machine to
gain control of the modem again (to send/receive another fax)."

"The fax installer wants file xxxxx.DLL but cannot find it"

There are several others; we all hope they'll be fixed one day...
