Default Acess Rights

Hello Chuck,

Since we have gotten so confused after 35 or more posts I have decided to
start anew.

Here is my problem:
Barry ( host computer) does not have any problems. He can access Maureen
(client) and printers ,internet etc.
Maureen cannot acess printers or files on Barry. She can access the internet.
I have tried micha.com without sucess.
TCP/IP Net Bios Helper both show Status=Started
The browser is running on the host computer.
The browser is disabled on the client.
The guest account is enabled on both computers from "cmd" using" copy and
paste".
Restrict anonymous is set to "0" for both computers. I double checked as "0"
is close to "o".
I do not have any known firewalls except for Windows which have the
exceptions enabled.
CDiag has been run using copy and paste.
IPX has been uninstalled -not just unchecked.
Net view \\barry (on maureen) returns "System error 5 has occured.

Access is denied"

"Maureen" is a new computer about 3 weeks ago.
"Barry" is about 1 year old and caught a virus that shut it down and had to
be fixed at the shop. It came back with SP2 installed and fixed as near as I
can tell. No known defects. Somehow I get the feeling that SP2 is causing a
lot of problems judging from the other posts.

I don't want to let go of this as if I have to install XP Pro I will lose a
lot of my programs and time. I feel Microsoft should come up with a fix.

Through these posts I have learned a lot more DOS than I wanted to know and
I thank you for your patience.

Here are Browstat, Ipconfig, and CDiag from both computers taken on both
computers within one/half hour of each other on 15 Dec. CDiag was from "copy
and paste".

Regards
Barry

What name did you use to login? What OS's are on each computer? File

If a computer does not have a browser running it can't see LAN resources.

SP2 defaults to firewalled and no file sharing. You have to fix this.

I don't want to let go of this as if I have to install XP Pro I will lose

Loosing programs shouldn't be a concern, you should have legal install cd's.
Time however is another matter. We never have enough. I shouldn't have
to say it, but for completeness - backup all data.

Through these posts I have learned a lot more DOS than I wanted to know

and
I thank you for your patience.

Real admins love CLI. (he jested) Your problem sounds like a permissions
problem on "barry". One thing, it is not a good practice to name computers
with human names. If you have ever had to administer 700+ computers, it
can be a real nightmare. A suggestion: call them something like "WS1" and
WS2 for workstation respectively. Once the number of computers goes
up, it is better to use serial numbers or tag numbers but that's another
story.
For maureen to get on the internet, I am assuming that barry is not
required.
That is why that process works ok. Independent router?

charles......
