Vista and Winxp ??
I have two Dell laptops (Inspiron 1720 and 1420) Both came with Vista
Ultimate installed....... I down graded the 1720 to Winxp Pro, installed all the drivers, and it works like a champ "Luv it"....... My question is: while looking at my used space on the 1720, (Winxp) it is only 17GB... that's the OS and everything that I installed. Looking at the 1420 (Vista ultimate) the used space is 34.4GB.. that's the O/S and an exact mirror of what I installed on the 1720.. Is it a good assumption that Vista requires almost twice as much space as Winxp.. No wonder upon startup the 1720 is up and running almost immediately, while the 1420 lumbers along.........Disk cleanup/ Defrag, etc are done frequently.. Thanks for any response Might as well downgrade the 1420 also!! Barry Austex

The Microsoft kb919183 article should give you an approximate idea of disk
space required by Windows Vista. Windows Vista Home Basic 20-gigabyte (GB) hard disk that has 15 GB of free hard disk space Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, and Windows Vista Ultimate 40-GB hard disk that has 15 GB of free hard disk space (the 15GB of free space provides room for temporary file storage during the install or upgrade.) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919183 WINDOWS XP Disk space used by XP 3 GB You Programs 14 GB Used disk space 17 GB WINDOWS VISTA Disk space used by Vista 20 GB(?) Your programs 14 GB Used disk space 34 GB Something does not add-up... install CCleaner to remove all type of temp files and all sorts of residue that only consumes disk space. Actually moving from Vista to XP is considered an UPGRADE!!!

to make a striped-down bootable CD/DVD of Windows XP w/SP3 or Vista w/SP1.
