Downloaded the Windows 10 April 2018 upgrade assistant

But when I run it, it very briefly says "checking" then just says "thank
you for running the latest version of windows 10"

Anyone else?

Windows automatically installed the update in my case and so far, I
like it. It finally organizes the laptop's hard disks (I only have a
M.2 SSD combo and a 2.5" HD for two drives but the previous versions
showed me as having more), slightly cleans up the Microsoft Edge
interface and shows which files were synchronized in Windows Explorer.
No drawbacks yet from what I can tell.

I've yet to see any update which changes anything at all.

Well, the new features might never be visible but we all notice when
things that used to work stop doing so.

That's because they keep adding features before repairing the ones they got wrong before.

Which isn't very different than the competition. To be honest, Apple,
Microsoft are very bad at fixing problems and though you'd expect
Linux developers to do a better job, the reality is that they fix
security problems quickly and ignore anything else.

Agreed. I never said it was limited to Microsoft. I think customers would be much happier to have a reliable system than one with extra features nobody ever uses.

Ha. Actually, AmigaOS is shockingly still in development and I believe
that their priority is implementing new, useful features rather than
crap which could hypothetically be used one day by some minority of
users if the moon and the sun align properly. What's unfortunate about
Microsoft is that thy often come up with some interesting ideas but
never really do anything about introducing them to the user or keeping
them around long enough for people to start caring. They're masters at
abandoning projects and functionality though.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't need any more features. If you asked me what I'd like Windows to do that it currently can't, I couldn't come up with anything. An OS is just a file system and the ability to launch programs. Just make it do those things really well.

Ok I forgot that, I like a GUI interface, and there should be basic programs included, like an image viewer. But I most definitely don't need a ****ing personal assistant! And I don't want tiles instead of a simple start menu!

Nostalgia. Many of the old timers are still convinced that the way
Amiga operated was superior even to the way Microsoft or Apple does
things. I've never used an Amiga in my life but I imagine that having
one in the 1980s and being ahead of the curve was a pretty special
feeling.

that their priority is implementing new, useful features rather than
crap which could hypothetically be used one day by some minority of
users if the moon and the sun align properly.

A Linux installation stuck in CLI mode does most of what I need to do
except view images LOL.

Ok I forgot that, I like a GUI interface, and there should be basic programs included, like an image viewer. But I most definitely don't need a ****ing personal assistant! And I don't want tiles instead of a simple start menu!

There are lots of things in Windows but you don't have to use all of
them. The latest version added a lot of nifty things but I'm not
likely to do any more with the machine despite the features than I did
with Windows 95 back in the day. Even an installation of Windows 3.1
with Netscape and Eudora could do most of what I want to do.
