First Windows Messenger 5 screenshots

Hi Joachim,

I don't think the system requirements for Messenger will be raised to 2Ghz *grin*. Obviously
allowing the video window to be resized (well, made bigger) has been a big feature request
for a long time, will it be in the final Windows Messenger 5.0 release? Unknown at this
point.

Hi Joachim,

You can't use WM9 codecs for voice/video conversations -- the encoding
time is too slow.

Think of MSN Messenger as Consumer Version and Windows Messenger
as Corporate Version. The last thing Corporate IT Managers want to do is
make it easier for internal users to access external services like Hotmail.

OK then why is Messenger part of XP and if you want to remove it you have to
run the reg file that is not support by MS. if you don't run the file
Outlook Express will crash or take forever to load waiting for Windows
Messenger 4.7
By the way Office 11 (Office 2003) dose not have newsgroups as part of the
program. So why don't MS do a update to remove Windows Messenger out of the
OS altogether. So if you want to install MSN Messenger you don't have two
Messenger running. I know I can go to Add and Remove programs and remove it.
but if you do not run the reg file Outlook Express will install it again.
Will Windows Messenger 5 have the same trouble as Windows Messenger 4.x has
with Outlook Express

I am running MSN 5.0, I still have WM 4.7.x installed. 4.7 does not load at
all, it stays dormant, just as I told it to. I am using Office 11 Beta 2 for
email, I used Outlook Express for newsgroups, and I am running Windows XP
Professional w/ SP1.

Jonathan is correct in his comparison of Outlook to Outlook Express and MSN
Messenger to Windows Messenger.

Windows Messenger seems to be geared more towards the business user, but,
that does not mean that a home user cannot use it. What kind of sense does
it make to say only "Servers" can have an IM client installed, that is
asinine as you don't run a server on your desktop, thus, no one would be
using Windows Messenger 5.0.

MSN is based more for entertainment usage, that does not mean that you
cannot use it in a business environment, if you so choose.

MSN/Windows Messenger were once designed by the same program group, then,
for truly unknown reasons, the groups were split. Now there are actually
three groups that are working on the Messenger clients.

But, they have designed MSN to run along side Windows Messenger and stay out
of your way if you so choose like I have.
