Quick Launch Gone on Restart

I followed your instructions and Voila! it worked. Oh the good old days when we just edited autoexec.bat--- your knowledge is impressive. Thank you.

Every time I reboot, my quick launch icons are gone. I have to right-click the task bar and reselect Show Quick Launch and it is fine until next restart.

Prior to this problem I had what looked like a "hijacked" task bar with shortcuts I did not put there. I tried to restore my system back to an earlier date (XP) but even though there were dates to pick from, a message came up saying it was not able to do the restore.

I downloaded and ran Ad-aware and that eliminated the "extra" items on the task bar. However the Quick Launch icons were gone too. I was able to right-click and reselect Show Quick Launch but after every restart they are gone.

Help?
