Default My Network Places

I have a user who has issues browsing My Network Places. When he navigates to
a share via this method, it is very slow displaying the contents of the
share. If he navigates via a mapped drive to the same share, it is much much
faster.
I've tried removing old shortcuts that link to machines that may no longer
be available and redundant shares, however this has made no difference.
Any ideas?

Network Places has always been problematic. Create shortcuts or map drives
to the shares instead.
