After you installed XP did you then install drivers for all your hardware -
chipset, ethernet adapter, sound, video, etc.? If not, this is your next
step and why you can't get on the Internet.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer
(HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model
machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor or System Information for Windows.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html - Belarc Advisor
http://www.gtopala.com/ - System Information for Windows

Obviously if you need to download drivers you'll have to get them from a
computer with Internet connectivity and put them on a USB thumb drive or
burn to CD-R to take to the target machine.

Hi
First thing make sure that you have Internet connection whether you activate
or Not does not matter to the main issue of Not having Internet connection.
As for help for the Internet connection you have to explain what is the make
of your Network.
Modem, Router, Authentication?
I do not know if it applies to what AOL is connecting you to, but maybe this
can Help.

Whoooaaa.. First things first.

Before considering anything like Internet access, my first port of call
would be Control PanelSystemHardware, and look in Device Manager for any
items with missing drivers. Until you rectify any deficiencies of this kind,
all sorts of things will not work.

Since you can't download, you will need a second computer to get any
required drivers, and will have to transfer them using a CD-R or USB memory.
(Assuming USB works of course, which it may not if the chipset drivers are
missing)

BTW I would leave activation until it's been got working properly. No point
in having to activate twice if you find you need to redo the install.
