Default SFC /Scannow results in "Insert your Windows XP Professional C

before I found that page, I tried about 20 diff suggestions, and
finally got it right.

I made a dir in C:

so it was
C:\I386

then in each of those three places I just did

C:\

and rebooted.

Finally did it.

Hope all goes well for you

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion, but Nass had already brought my attention to
it earlier, however, what he suggested in the article did not address my
issue.

http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

recap that is truly important:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup

You will see various entries here on the right hand side. The one we
want is called:

SourcePath

---------------------

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\SourcePath

--------------------

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup
\ServicePackSourcePath

This should be pointing to the location C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles
(assuming C:\ is the boot drive.)

-------------------------------------------------------

Hi, again, I to did the same thing, I copied from my CD the I386 folder to my
C drive and pointed the SourcePath in the registry to it and re-booted and
re-ran the SFC, still when it came to these Five DLL's it asked for Windows
XP Professional CD 2, I'm out of ideas. Thanks for your help.

if you know the exact 5, I had a situation like that back then, and
just copied them to my I386 and after that the scannow went smoothly.

The only thing left I will have to dig up later.......and I had to do
that too. Will post later.

I will be back, but dinner calls

Thanks Jack for your response, unfortunately, XP does not tell me which ones
they are. I tried to look at the History log but is was of no help in
identifying them.

Hi, Jack I read the contents of the link and it seems to apply to XP Home
edition, I have the XP Professional edition with SP 2. If I remove
Professional from these files I would be concerned. Please advise.

Thanks Jack, The event viewer did the trick. Below are the Five Dll's that I
had to hit the cancel button on (Skip) because they could not be found.

C:\windows\ehome\ko\ehepgdat.resources.dll
C:\windows\ehome\ja\ehepgdat.resources.dll
C:\windows\ehome\fr\ehepgdat.resources.dll
C:\windows\ehome\de\ehepgdat.resources.dll
C:\windows\ehome\zh-chs\ehepgdat.resources.dll

Hi, ref your subject heading I had similar problems when using the run
command, had box showing retry button, when pressed it would come on again
not recognizing xp disc. My son-in-law stated if I continually hit the retry
button the files would load, and they did the blue bar eventually built up.
It took an hour but all files were taken from disc. and all was ok.

I'm having a problem like that too but the other thing is I don't have win
xp pro, I have home. Why would it ask me for pro? I also tried to put the
i386 folder in another drive to use without the cd and it still asks for the
cd. I haven't been able to use the file checker ever since I used a
registry cleaner and I'm sure I restored it but it still doesn't work. I
even restored my whole drive from my backups and it still asks for pro cd.

Ok I found the link in one of the messages and tried it. The one file did
have professional in it and the other had home. I ran file checker just to
see what comes up and it comes up home now, but I still would like to know
why putting the i386 folder in another drive still prompts me to insert cd?

John you may have to hit the retry many times, every time it shows hit it,
sometimes it will remain off,as it loads a number of files but will return.
So allow yourself time for it to complete fully and you have a complete blue
progress bar.,
