This is part of a reply I made to you on 31 October.

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

From your latest post this is indicative of a Stop Error.

C:\DOCUMENT~1\rebecca\locals~1\temp\WER67CoDir00\m ini110207.01dmp

A complete copy of the Stop Error Report should be provided

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have
solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

You improve your chances of resolving your problem when you post factual
reports

Hope this helps.

Was the disk clean up performed as a part of regular "maintenance",

If the latter is the case, could virus/adware be the reason for the

In case you feel that the computer is not infested (otherwise
priority one
is to clean the PC), you may check (and report) the Windows Manager
(ctrl+alt+del):
- CPU usage (Performance Tab). When high, go to Processes and note
any with
high CPU workload.
- Commit Charge (Performance Tab) what are the current values for
Total, the

Verify RAM installed (Start\Run msinfo32.exe) versus in use (My

rightclick Properties, lower righthand corner of General?).

Hi Ka2H
CPU usage is minimal, most progs on 00 except system idle (even when
trying to load pages) this varied between 77 and 98

Then I got error on screen
'System has recovered from a serious error and will need to close.....

Oh another thing that slows things down enormously is
if the rules for the HD changed to quick remove

My computer / right click C: / properties / hardware / (select the disk again) / policies /
``enable write caching'' ought to be checked.

If not, it's slowed down a lot.

Sounds like a hardware problem. See "Hardware Troubleshooting" at:

One other idea: your hard drive may have reverted to PIO mode. See:

The first two Reports occured after the last two and I would thinked are
paired in that they relate to the same problem. They could go away if
you can resolve the other two.

Of the remaining two this one is probably the more important:
"Faulting application zyxel g-202.exe, version 2.0.2.1, faulting module
zyxel g-202.exe, version 2.0.2.1, fault address 0x000606d4."

It would seem that you have a Zyxel modem or router and the related
software is not working as it should. How and when did you acquire this
item? What is the model number? You may need to get an updated driver
from the Zyxel site or update the software.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

The OffProv12 warning relates either to a problem with Office 2007 or a
beta version of Office 2007. Which do you have installed?

Hello Gerry
Thanks for your post.

Zyxel - G-202 wireless modem - I connect to the internet on the pc using a USB adapter.
It has been working fine since we got it, approx 2 months ago, and it also works well on another lapt top we use. I did get online today,it connects fine, and it seems that the process of actually opening up IE takes an age.

We purchased wireless modem and usb from our service provider.
I looked at device manager and there was a question mark beside other devices, and when i clicked on this I read that 'the drivers for this device are not installed'

but I did locate the Zyxel wireless usb adapter under network adapters, and when i looked at this it showed 'this device is working properly'
Driver details C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\WlanUZXP.sys

I have office 2007 (not the beta version) which i got from a computer outlet, it is installed on 2 other computers in the house and works just fine.
It does work on the PC, I opened it today, but it takes an age to open.

I looked in the event log for today and was surprised to see only a few errors and warnings

Description:
The computer browser service terminated with the following error:
This operation returned because the time out period expired.

The computer only took about 30 mins to boot up today, and its just so slow to load the desktop icons etc, and when i click on programs I sometimes get the torch while the pc tries to locate the program, it seems once the programs are open they seem to work a little faster. But a lot of the time when i try to close a program i get the message on top of page thats its stopped responding.

I did not get the chance to download Hive cleanup today, but will do tomorrow.

Thank you once again for all your help and time so far, I am very very grateful.

Check your modem software against the list in this link. It can happen,
more often than one would expect, that the software CD coming with
hardware is already out of date when you make your purchase.

http://www.zyxel.co.uk/web/support_download_result.php

" I looked at device manager and there was a question mark beside other
devices, and when i clicked on this I read that 'the drivers for this
device are not installed'"

Please provide more details.

What are your your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?

How much RAM memory do you have? What is your CPU processor speed?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is your hard disk and how much free space.

Hope this helps.

Hello Gerry
Thanks for your post.

Zyxel - G-202 wireless modem - I connect to the internet on the pc
using a USB adapter.
It has been working fine since we got it, approx 2 months ago, and it
also works well on another lapt top we use. I did get online today,it
connects fine, and it seems that the process of actually opening up
IE takes an age.

We purchased wireless modem and usb from our service provider.
I looked at device manager and there was a question mark beside other
devices, and when i clicked on this I read that 'the drivers for this
device are not installed'

but I did locate the Zyxel wireless usb adapter under network
adapters, and when i looked at this it showed 'this device is
working properly' Driver details
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\WlanUZXP.sys

I have office 2007 (not the beta version) which i got from a computer
outlet, it is installed on 2 other computers in the house and works
just fine.
It does work on the PC, I opened it today, but it takes an age to
open.

I looked in the event log for today and was surprised to see only a
few errors and warnings

The computer only took about 30 mins to boot up today, and its just
so slow to load the desktop icons etc, and when i click on programs I
sometimes get the torch while the pc tries to locate the program, it
seems once the programs are open they seem to work a little faster.
But a lot of the time when i try to close a program i get the
message on top of page thats its stopped responding.

I did not get the chance to download Hive cleanup today, but will do
tomorrow.

Thank you once again for all your help and time so far, I am very
very grateful.

Given that means Vista as well is installed on the PC, I assume you are
aware of that the Windows Vista recommended system requirements with regard
to CPU speed is 1 GHz, and that installation and - / or use did not give rise
to the slowness when running on XP.

And in case the computer really is running on the Vista OS, is the
"behaviour" similar to as when using XP?

Will have a look at driver version compatability.
Thanks

[quote=Gerry;3004964]Check your modem software against the list in this link. It can happen,
more often than one would expect, that the software CD coming with
hardware is already out of date when you make your purchase.

Hello Gerry
Thank you for your post, unfortuately at the moment I cannot act on any of your help and advise, as tnight when i turned the pc on it started to load, got to the desktop and then I got a blue screen with the following...

'A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
KERNEL-DATA-INPAGE-ERROR
If this is the first time you have seen this screen, restart your computer.
If this screen appears again check to make sure new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation ask manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, remove or disable any newly installed hard/software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
Technical info:
STOP: 0X0000007A (0XE18FB378, 0X000000E, 0XBF8CEEF0, 0X191860)
Win32k.sys - address BF8CEEF0 base at BF8000000
Date stamp 45F013F6
Physical memory dump complete. '

I restarted pc, and before desktop appeared, i had blue screen again, but this time it said

'A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. FOLLOWED BY THE BODY OF MESSAGE THE SAME AS ABOVE
Technical info:
STOP: 0X000000F4 (0X00000003, 0X82A1B9D8, 0X82A1BB4C, 0X805FA160)
Physical memory dump complete'

As much as I have been able to follow your straight forward help and support, I dont feel that I am going to be able or that I am computer competent enough to be able to sort this problem out, and now with these new errors today I think I am going to have to take it to have some one try to sort it out for me.
I dont understand why these new messages have appeared today, as I haven't changed anything since yesterday. Ans its just so odd that this all started after performing disk cleanup, or maybe that was just a coincindence.
Thank you for all your help though, I am very very grateful for your time.

I fully understand your predicament. Given the circumstances I would
take the computer to my computer supplier ( a small shop) and ask them
to resolve the problem. A home user does not have the resources to check
out hardware like power supply units, motherboards etc. I would be
interested to know what they find.
