Default setting "Explorer" view in XP

I guess there are many ways to skin this cat. I created a desktop shortcut
from EXPLORER.SCF then pinned it to my classic Start Menu. The details of
the shortcut a
'Target': C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.SCF. 'Start In': C:\WINDOWS. It opens
explorer at C: root. Since I put it in the Start Menu, I deleted the
shortcut from the desktop... your choice.

After looking at Alex's solution, I think it has the most flexibility.
Just my 2 cents....

I'm trying to use the Windows Explorer function (like the
old days in 98 etc.) and cannot figure out how to "set"
or "hold" the view I want when I open the program again.
It always defaults to opening "My Documents" and showing
the many un-used folders within. How do I set it, and
keep it, opening on my C drive!???
Any help appreciated.
