Problem Re-installing XP
Hi, I am trying to re-install Windows XP for my niece as her computer was running really slowly. I booted from the installation disc and went through the formatting of the drive, selecting the partition to put it on and then it copied the files and rebooted. When it finished booting up again it got to the loading Windows screen and stopped dead. I have tried three different hard drives because I thought it might be a failing hard drive, it was still the same. I tried another installation disc but that was still the same. I am at a loss as to what to try next!! Has anybody any ideas please!! Thanks in advance, Shirley -- Salamander46 |

Have you tried to enter safe mode after the installation? Press F8 upon bootup and see if you can get into safe mode. Let us know. -- LPH |

Problem Re-installing XP
if the ram check proves futile
then you might consider the following; ------------------- when windows tries to load the cpu goes into overdrive and gets pretty hot. so you might want to double check the innards and ensure the cpu fan is working also the fan may also not be securely attached to the cpu or if you built the system, you didn't remove the film from the cpu fan. ---------------- also, you might try pointing a desk fan towards the motherboard and see if this helps. -- db·´¯`·...¸)))º DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com - nntp Postologist ~ "share the nirvana" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "undisclosed" wrote in message ... Yes, I managed to bring the option for safe mode up and clicked on it, but it fills the screen with text and stops dead. I guess that is because the operating system is not installed, the files are copied ready to install but it freezes before it can complete the install. -- Salamander46 |
