XP SP2
I removed my SP3 and made a clean install of sp2 and all the patches. My
computer seems to run a little faster and doesn't take as long to boot. I will report what the patche level is. Bill |

Always reply to your original thread, Bill.
PS: Your headers (Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3598) tell us that WinXP SP3 is (still) installed and that OE is fully patched. Bill Cunningham wrote: "Bill Cunningham" wrote in message ... One of my PCs is still (intentionally) with XP Home, SP2. It is fully patched. My OE version is 6.00.2900.2180. Is this because I am running IE7 instead of IE8? How does one determine what these version numbers correspond to? |

How does one determine what these version numbers correspond to? 6.00.2900.2180 is the original SP2. In OE | Help | about: Scroll down to msoe.dll and if you are fully patched, it will read: 6.00.2900.3598. But, you need only read your message headers as posted he X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3598 for me to see you do have a fully patched SP2. The version of IE makes no difference. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA |

snip Perhaps you can clear up my confusion, Bruce. One of my PCs is still (intentionally) with XP Home, SP2. It is fully patched.... It won't be 5 months from now! Computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered any further critical security updates, Automatic Updates will cease to function, and Windows Update website will not be available after 12 April 2010 until SP3 is installed. Read & heed: http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron...tallation.aspx ...Is this because I am running IE7 instead of IE8? The following may or may not be of concern to you: About IE7 & IE8 and Windows XP Service Pack 3 http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...and-xpsp3.aspx |

I'd rather run a patched IE7. Bill Or a patched IE6. I don't like IE7 all that much either. The only think I liked better in IE7 was the addition of tabs - that's about it. And what they did to the overall IE interface, and it's customability (or rather, lack thereof, I should say) - ugh! (As in thanks, but no thanks. :-). |
