Default How play 2 audio files "simultanously"?

If my audio editor (Audacity) is working on an audio file and my
movie player has a film loaded, then I can't switch between the apps
and hear each app's audio.

I don't want to actually play the audio at the very same time but I
do want to be be able to go to one or the other app and hear its
audio.

Why does this happen. Where in the system is this determined?

Most importantly, how do I get the audio in both apps to be
available?

Can you walk and chew gum simultaneously?

Surprised to see such a flippant response from an MVP??
If you don't know or don't care, don't reply.

But it DOES make the message quite clear, in my opinion. That chewing gum
and talking at the same time was a good analogy.

I would have said expecting your girl friend to keep talking to you while
giving you head. ;-)

Out of curiosity, I just played some music with Media Player
while running a PowerPoint presentation with music. The
system seems to have no problem playing the two together,
although the result is a bit of an esthetic mess.

OK, I take it the OP wants to switch _between_ the two
streams, but until today I didn't realize I could combine
two (or more, I assume) audio outputs, with no explicit
audio mixing.
