If that disappoints you, tough titties. bull****. most popular programs won't run on that ****ty ubuntu. you know, the INFERIOR OS that nobody wants? |

I'm still trying to get my Lexmark printer to work. I haven't figured out how to get sound installed but I have been playing with a program called modprobe and it appears the driver sound.o is not being loaded so at least I am making progress. The other problem I am having is with my ATI card which doesn't seem to want to go over 800x600 rezolootion. That's not acceptable on a 22 inch LCD monitor but I am working on that one. I should have the kinks worked out by the end of the weekend. I can't believe Linux is free. They could easily charge $100.00 for this software. You should try Linux before criticizing it. You might be pleasently surprised. I am. Oh, sarcasm, I love it! Unless you actually are serious but with a screen name like yours, its impossible to take you seriously. However, it does sound like most Ubuntu and or Linux in general installs. 1 sound doesn't work or having trouble getting it to work 2 printer issues 3 video cards being incompatible, unable to use their full capabilities and the typical linux response is "Well, your video card sucks, buy a good video card!" |

Saying Linux is or is not better than Windows is like saying a shovel is better than a rake. Yeah, it might be, if you are trying to dig a hole. If you want to rake out a seed bed, a rake is better. Some distributions are better than others when it comes to having drivers included so that it runs on your hardware right out of the box. Others require that you know how to rebuild a kernel and hunt down and compile drivers and missing applications. Linux just wasn't made for the technically faint of heart. Windows was. And with a screen name like the guy before you...I have a hard time taking anything he says seriously...puulleeaassee...his Daddy needs to take his computer way from him until he grows up. |

Oh and don't forget that when you finally do get your video card to work, along comes an updated Kernel and breaks it again.... That's what happened to me. I had all my video working great with Linux, dual monitors and all. I did some updates from the Fedora repositories and upon the next reboot I was left at a command line root login. Took me 2 days to figure out how to fix it and lucky I had another computer that I could get on the net with or I would have been dead. No more Linux for me. It's just not worth the time wasted trying to make simple things work. |
