What I want to be able to do is play movies on my computer

like to just be able to "send" them over the WiFi. Can I
do that easily with the current setup?

I always use a flash drive to watch movies on my TV. I think
setting up wireless is more trouble than using a flash drive.
Why do you want wireless?

Anyway, if you still want wireless, google for DLNA.

The short ans is, if it sounded easy I might try doing it.
From the replies it doesn't exactly sound easy. I need to
figure out if my TV is DLNA to start...

That's bull****; DLNA is immensely easy to use and a lot more
convenient than a flash drive. This is essentially how it works:

1) Turn on TV 2) Click on the message bubble in the Windows
taskbar 3) Click on Connect 4) If you're in range, it will find
DLNA-equipped hardware (like your TV) and allow you to connect to
it 5) If it succeeds in connecting, you then click on Project in
the same menu if it didn't automatically do so on its own. Choose
the type of projection which works best for you.

Windows will take care of the audio and the video though there
will be a slight delay (around 1 second) compared to the device
you're projecting from. However, what you will see on the screen
will be in perfect sync. It works great for movies and TV but I
wouldn't recommend to use it for gaming.

Regarding Step 2, what is "the message bubble in the Windows
taskbar"?

At the bottom-right of Windows, in the system tray (I just realized I
used the wrong term), there is a message bubble-like icon. That's the
one I was referring to.

Apologies to you and Paul. I've come to realize that you're probably talking
about Win 10-specific features and I don't have Win 10.

Just curious, then why are you engaging discussion in a Windows 10
newsgroup?

What an odd question.

Why is it odd? You state that you don't use Windows 10 but you're
asking an OS question in a group about an OS you don't use. I think
that's a fair question.

It sounds vaguely like this page.

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...cast-media-dev

ice-windows-10-a.html

The

thing is that you can cast anything from Windows 10 to a Miracast
or DLNA device. You don't need to go through Microsoft Edge either.
Like I said, system tray - connect - select device. It's a very neat
feature and it's how my wife and I stream content from Kodi, ripped
videos or even BR discs played on my laptop to the TV.
