Default Updates - Download or Install

Hi there,
I'm downloading the latest windows updates which I do manually every
couple of weeks but I've been slack lately and the last updates I got
were on the 24th June. Both then and the time before I was somehow able
to download the updates to a folder of my choice (and install later)
simply by following the Windows Update link on the Start menu and having
the scan done. I didn't do anything extra to be able to do this.

Now I'm back to having the download and installation done for me which
means I can't backup the updates for future use (on my oh sooooo slow
dialup).

Does anyone know how I achieved downloading the .exe file without the
install if I didn't go searching through microsoft's site? I know they
can be downloaded if you know what you are after and I know I am asking
you to tell me what I did and you weren't here but boy I wish I could do
it again

Thanks for your time
miskairal

You can download them from the Catalog and save to be installed later.

Thanks Kaylene for your reply.
I know I can download the updates via the catalogue but I don't
understand what the individual updates do so I don't know which ones I
need. I therefore rely on microsoft to tell me what I need via the
update link.

I know I didn't get them via the catalogue the last couple of times b/c
there is no way I'd have known what to get. I'm sure I clicked a
download/install button and then was given the option to download and
save without installing. I remember thinking it was odd at the time and
looked to see what I had done differently, didn't find anything on my
side so was just happy that I was able to do it.

Too good to be true!

Cheers

When the updates were offered, did you click on the "read
more" link which opens another page?
