Why wouldn't I download it right from the source?
http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/download

The link is for v2010 not v2014.

I downloaded and installed Agent Ransack 2014 from its developer's Web
site at http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/. The installer can do
either x32 or x64.

After installing, the application, its [Help About] says "Release
Build 816 - 2014.01.06.60185 (x64)". The installed AgentRansack.exe
file has the property detail "build 816 - 2014.01.06.60185 (x64)".

I also looked at the PC World download. The SHA1 checksums for that and
the Mythicsoft download do not compare.

I am leary about software available from PC World, CNET, and similar
distributors that are not the developers. While they generally do not
contain malware, they often contain adware or other such annoyances.

That's because PC World link is for:

v2010 not v2014

Read my subject line (CLOSELY)

Some like the older version, including me.

What happens when you just let it auto update. Mine appears to be latest
x64, 2014 and I let it update, but not sure what it was when first
installed.

What do you object to about the new version? As far as I can tell, it's
much like the old one.

Nothing really, I guess I'm just old school, haven't tested both
side-by-side.

v2010 doesn't have a auto update, does v2014?

On the menu bar, go to [Help Check For Updates]. On the Check For
Updates window, a checkbox for automatic updates is in the lower-left
corner.

I do not know, and I will not test it. I unchecked the checkbox. I
very much prefer manually checking, manually downloading, and manually
installing.

Informs you there is an update, I believe you manually download and
install.
I keep frequent image backups so don't worry too much although I've never
had a problem with updates in general.
Did have a third party who had a problem with a windows update. Thoroughly
tested to verify, had to roll back and turn off windows update. This was
on an xp machine, thought they would have stopped updating that system.
