My family was from Springfield but I was born in St.Louis
because they had better hospitals back in 1946 than Springfield. I lived in Springfield until the early 70s. We used to visit Chicago to shop at VL&A and Marshall Field, also to see the museums. When I became a professional pilot I flew into Chicago a few times, Meigs was a pleasure until the dictator destroyed the runway to build another slum, er housing project. O'Hare was tough not because of the traffic in the air, but taxiing (I was single pilot in a King Air F90). Midway is so small, taxiing was easy, everything is within sight. Winter in Springfield was usually not that bad. I never saw a temperature below -28 F with wind chill about 50-70 below. But that was usually only a day or two. We did have a cold snap that lasted 5 weeks with the high for the day at an actual temp never above -10 F. There was ice on the walls inside the donut shops about 4 inches thick, most seemed to be uninsulated concrete block and all the cooking had the humidity near 100%. They had fans blowing on the windows to keep the ice off so the windows could be seen through and to prevent them breaking. Do you enjoy watching THE BLUES BROTHERS because it is in Chicago or for the music? My father lived in St Louis for awhile after he got out of the army before
he and my paternal grandfather moved back to Chicago.:-) Most of my feelings about O'Hare aren't very good. First, you have to walk forever to get to your ramp or from where you deplane to get to the baggage area. Second, we could make it to Chicago from Los Angeles in record time with tail winds all the way only to get to O'Hare and have to spend an hour and a half circling the airport. The pilot informed us of this and the approximate 90 minute wait (they considered playing a movie) and I remember muttering, "I sure hope he has enough fuel!" As to the Blues Brothers, the answer is "Both!"VBG -- Michael Solomon MS-MVP Windows Shell/User Backup is a PC User's Best Friend DTS-L.Org: http://www.dts-l.org/ "Jim Macklin" wrote in message ... I do like Lower Wacker Drive.
Maybe we'd best drop the thread, it is getting off topic. -- The people think the Constitution protects their rights; But government sees it as an obstacle to be overcome.
