Use this path: C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

What happens when you right click ...inf\pchealth and left click

install?
What does the installation do? TIA,

It performs the actions/instructions in the .inf file. Click on
"Open" and you will see.

John

I don't understand those actions and instruction. Maybe I don't want
actions to be performed. What actions(25 words or less acceptible) ?

John John, it looks like someone is dangling a lure to see if you'll
bite.

lol, I KNEW he needed a lot of help with understanding English!

Thank you Real Truth,
I have cut and pasted as directed to Notepad and saved it (type: to all
files) to desktop. When I double click the desktop icon - it just opens
the file in Notepad - does not merge it into registry that i can tell.
What did I do wrong?

What you did wrong was trust this fake MVP.

Ignore anything from this poster. He is not an MVP.

dOES anyone else 2nd that?

Google 'pcbutts1' for the full story.

The name of the file should be helpfix.reg not helpfix.reg.txt rename the
file to read helpfix.reg. I am NOT trying to screw with you, I am a real
Microsoft MVP just as the real MS logo's state on my website
http://www.ms-mvp.org/ Microsoft does not and will not allow anyone or
anybody display these logo's if they were not an MVP.

That URL links to a page that is not connected with or approved by
Microsoft. The Real Truth MVP is not registered with or recognised by
Microsoft.

The Real Truth has a long history of posting bad or potentially damaging
advice as well as much pirated utilities. He (or she) is also an inveterate
liar particularly with respect to the continued false claims to be an MVP.

The correct link for MVPs is

www.mvps.org

Don't take my word for it, Google 'pcbutts1' for the full story.

No you do NOT understand perfectly well. What? you think you can goad me
into telling you my real name and MVP profile? You're an idiot go away
troll and stop disrupting this newsgroup.

If you were a real MVP (and we all know that you aren't), then you would
occasionally post advice that was worth reading. No real MVP would post as
much ****e as you do.

To reinstall the Help and Support Center right click on the
C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf file and select Install, you may be asked for
your Windows XP CD to do the repairs.

The path to the executable is not specified in the PATH environment
variable. *The path to many executables are recorded in the registry.
The
file is found there.

I know of the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths

I'd have to go Googling around or searching MS knowledgebase to see if
other
keys specified additional registry-defined paths to executables. *Under
the
above registry key, I have 89 entries (i.e., path definitions to find
executable files). *For you, what is the default data item's value
under
the
HELPCTR.EXE subkey? *For my Windows XP Pro SP-3, the value is:

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe

If you run that above command string (or whatever value is specified on
your
host) at a command prompt (e.g., Start - Run), does the "Help and
Support"
application load and display?

Locate c:\windows\inf\pchealth.inf, right click and choose to Install.

You may be prompted to enter your XP installation CD as it looks for
the installation files. The files are on your XP installation CD or
already on your system from the original installation, you just need
to tell the installation where to look.

If you don't have an XP installation CD, change the Copy file from
dialogue (by clicking the Browse and Retry buttons) to point to the
appropriate folder for each requested files:

dataspec.xml (c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386)
pchdt_w3.cab (c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries)
HCAppRes.dll (c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries)
atrace.dll (c:\windows\system32)

Reboot your system to be sure the installation is complete.

Speaking of services, is "PC Health", installed from c:\windows\inf\, a
service, and can something, some app, be found somewhere after installation?
The install apparently did all of its busy work, and then - what? Am I
benefited in some way? Some unhelpful posters in xp basic led me to this
action, installing. What now?
