Windows XP SP3 Twice As Fast As Vista
Gordon wrote: "Gerry" wrote in message ... I am not impressed with their pricing strategy outside the US. I emailed MS UK to ask why retail copies of Vista in UK were DOUBLE the cost of Vista in the US, given the exchange rate of 2$ to the £, and in the reply was the wonderful statement "one factor in determining the retail price in the UK is the GDP per head"!!!!!!!!!! As a Management Accountant of many years standing I have NEVER EVER seen ANY organisation use "GDP per Head" as part of their pricing strategy! And that backfired on them as the GDP per head in the US is higher than that of the UK! When I put that to MS UK they became remarkably silent.... I would suspect that it's to cover the costs of doing business in the "European community". |

I suspect not, because the same thing happened with XP - XP was double the USA price, and that was WAY before the EU anti-trust thing.... |

Do you really believe the Microsoft spin doctors and Bill Gates when they try to explain the price differential? They all give different explanations.Bill made a right cockup of his explanation when interviewed on UK TV early in the year. -- Hope this helps. One reason is that it benchmarks nonexistent software against Vista. And just how did you deduce that from the article? I deduced it because the latest SP shown in MS download center was SP2. We've been hearing about SP3 for a long time, and it's always been either vaporware or some hack's creation. Then after posting I saw Gerry's link, so it appears part of Microsoft's site has been updated and part has not -- or else SP3 has been announced but isn't actually available for download. As I said when I started a new thread, I was surprised there hadn't been any discussion here. -- Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems, Tompkins County, New York, USA http://OakRoadSystems.com/ "If there's one thing I know, it's men. ColTom2 wrote: I must have hit a sensitive nerve with the Vista pundits although unintentional. Since reading some of the curt replies it now causes me to wonder even more why XP represented over 40% of MS sales of OS software this year. This is somewhat unprecedented I might add and is not a "flawed fact". That would infer that nearly 60% was Vista. So whats the big whoopie doo about? As one of those 60% ers, I did /not/ have a choice. My new portable came pre-installed with Vista (no choice given) - and I refuse to pay more money to a crooked organisation to have XP re-installed. Now do you understand? |

Actually the real interesting point is that it is very reminiscent of 5 years ago. 'nough said. So, Bob, people should wait for Vista "SP2" before they waste any money on the new OS. Perhaps by that time Vista will have gone the way of Windows ME (consigned to the dusbin of software history) |
