Clock keeps hanging up?
About every other time I shut my computer down the clock
stops. When I power back up, the time is the same or slightly off when I shut down. It appears as if an internal battery holds charge and keeps time for a bit, then dies and the clock stops tickign. Is this a virus or XP issue? Any advice on how to fix it? |

Sounds like your motherboard CMOS battery is dying. That is what powers the clock. Find the manual or check out the manufacturer on how to replace the battery. |

It appears as if an internal battery holds charge and keeps time for a bit, then dies and the clock stops tickign. Is this a virus or XP issue? Neither. What you state in the sentence before is correct. The internal battery on the motherboard needs replacing. Check your manual for instructions. These are very cheap, normally only a couple of dollars. Do this soon, before other important BIOS information is lost. When you take out the old battery, you usually have a few minutes to replace it before you lose all the BIOS settings, but it's prudent not to rely on this; copy down all the settings with pencil and paper before you remove the battery. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |
