Default Display Windows Address Book in Last Name Order

Frank,

No wonder you've misunderstood me. I'm not using OE (Outlook Express). I'm
using MS Office Outlook 2003.

Sharing means that OE is using Outlook's contacts. If you disable sharing
Outlook will still have them but OE won't.

Question for you: If I disable sharing between the Windows Address Book
and
Outlook Contacts, when I go to address an email message using Outlook,
where
will Outlook get its list of names to display to to me and will those
names
be displayed in lastname, firstname order (i.e. in the same order as I
currently have them filed).

It might not be the answer you *want* but, it's how things are, Dennis.
Life will be much more enjoyable if you learn what an application *does*
and
work within its parameters instead of trying to make it do what you
expect
it should do.

If you want to disable sharing:

Navigate to this Registry key...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\WAB
\WAB4

In right-pane, there should be a DWORD named UseOutlook with a value of 1
(one). Change the value to 0 (zero) and sharing is disabled.

(If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and don't alter any other
DWORD values.)

Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing
was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.

You can export a CSV file from Address Book (FileExportother address
book)
which can then be imported in Outlook.

Thanks, but no thanks. That's not the right answer either. WinXP
address
book comes configured to display the names from the Contacts Folder in
Outlook 2003, if that is installed on the computer. It sounds to me
like
Microsoft has done a poor job of integrating the two pieces of software
so
that they work together properly. If Outlook lists names in
alphabetical
order by lastname (which is the standard way of locating names in a
directory-type listing), then the Windows Address Book should be doing
the
same thing also. In the Address Book Window, there is a field that
says
"Display Names From" and the Outlook Contacts Folder can be selected
(it
is
on my computer). The names are not being displayed in the same manner
as
in
Outlook. I believe this is a "bug" Microsoft needs to fix.

If you have no ViewSort by in Windows Address Book, it's due to
having
Address Book configured to share contacts with Outlook. I can tell
you
how
to disable sharing but then you wouldn't have access to Address Book
in
Outlook.

Your call.

Yes, I meant the WinXP Pro Address Book that is linked to the MS
Office
Outlook 2003 Contacts. In the Outlook Contacts window, there is an
address book icon. When I click that or try to address an email,
another
Address Book opens listing the names in firstname, lastname order (not
the
same order as the Contacts address book).

My WinXP Pro version is 2002 with SP2. My MS Office Outlook 2003
version
is
11.6359.6360 SP1. There is no "Sort by" option in the View menu of
Outlook 2003 or in the Address Book window. Any more ideas as to how
to
fix? Thanks.

I think the confusion here is that Dennis is using and asking
about Outlook 2003. Although he said "the WinXP Pro Address
Book," that's not what he meant, and that confused Frank.

Does anyone know how to get the WinXP Pro Address Book to
display
its entries
by LastName, Firstname order? I'm using the MS Office
Outlook 2003
Contacts
with WinXP Pro. The "File As" field in Outlook is set for
Lastname,Firstname
order, but the Windows Address Book still displays some
entries when
composing and email message in the firstname, lastname order
rather
than by lastname,firstname order.
