I am looking for a Free Usenet Reader. I will soon be buying a new PC
and I no longer have the registration info, for the Agent program I am
now using. I only use Usenet, for similar "Advise" oriented groups (no
binaries), thus I thought there might be a suitable free Reader.

I do have, for a monthly fee, a Usenet supplier.

This is second-hand advice, but it might be
useful. I still use Outlook Express 6 and find
it very much adequate, but this topic used to
come up periodically in programming newsgroups
I frequent and several old-timers raved about
Mesnews. I haven't tried it myself. I don't like
all the fancy extras like color-coding of preceding
comments in a post. But I know those features
are important to some people.

I use an old version of Agent which I registered long ago. I
have found that by installing the program and then copying my old
Agent data directory over the new installation's data directory that I
have been able to continue using Agent. I have done this at least
three times now.

The great thing about Agent is that you can simply copy it to another
computer and it'll run just fine.

There seems to be something wrong with

but if you get it working there should be something about creating a
backup (and moving Agent to another computer).

And if you want to install it again: the license key can be found in
AGENT.INI (in your Data folder).

I hope it works for you.

Someone else posted about agent.ini. That might well be the
critical file.

I just copy everything since that includes several years of
newsgroup posts that I wish to keep.
