Help Please, Personalise not running.
Windows 10 64 bit, v1803, OS build 17134.441
I haven't had cause to use Personalise for quite a while but tried to run it today from both the drop down menu and Personalisation in Settings. Using the menu I get a blue screen with the white cog and from Setting nothing, I've waited to give both a chance to sort themselves out to no avail. I've tried various fixes from the Web and even an fsc /scannow (no problems) and a System Restore which didn't work. I now admit defeat and ask any kind person to point me at a solution or where the personalisation start up thingy is. Thanks in advance Mike -- Michael Swift We do not regard Englishmen as foreigners. Kirkheaton We look on them only as rather mad Norwegians. Yorkshire Halvard Lange |

Do you mean right click desktop Personalize ? There is no "personalisation start up thingy" The menu is the right click one and Personalisation is one of the sections in the Settings. Thanks in advance Mike Have you performed any of the troubleshooting routines at Settings, Update, Troubleshooting. I should pay specific attention to those routines Hardware and Devices. You may also do an extensive disk check chkdsk /F /X /R from Command Prompt (Admin ) https://www.lifewire.com/chkdsk-command-2625838 If you are losing major portions to the screens for the OS, you may need to reset Windows 10. While not wishing to be a wet blanket. With my last computer I was having similar problems. I had done most of the above when I heard a "POP" from the computer. I bought a laptop with i7 CPU, 8GB memory, 1TB disk. -- 2018: The year we learn to play the great game of Euchre |

Remember that Microsoft had a server meltdown not that long ago, that *deactivated* perfectly good accounts. If you're not activated, Personalize should be locked. They've fixed the license server problem. Find the Settings wheel dialog for "Activation". Type "Activation" into Cortana to help you find it. click the button. https://i.postimg.cc/GhkMmJGF/troubleshoot-this.gif Then go back to Personalize. Best guess, Paul |

Help Please, Personalise not running.
This will not help, but it perhaps shows the reason
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4467682 After installing this optional update some users may get a blue or black screen with error code, "System thread exception not handled." After installing this update some users with custom Start menu layouts may see them displayed incorrectly. Juergen |

Not on the Personalise front but I did find later that I couldn't log into my windows Xbox so couldn't play Solitaire and Wordsmart. A 5 day old system restore update fixed this but sadly not the original post problem, strangely the SR claimed to have not worked but fixed the Xbox problem. Don't you just love Windows. Update, if anyone is interested. I tried everything suggested without success, yesterday I was notified that an update to1809 was ready. I decided to let it get on with it, one and a half hours later, despite having a quad core CPU, 16 gig of RAM and an SSD it completed and I now have Personalisation back. Many thank for all who tried to help. Mike :-) As for the time it took, how much of it was download time? Has your ISP implemented "traffic management", aka as "Pay for speed." No, nit teh drug, the bit rate. A good proportion of it was actual installation time, a good hour plus, download wasn't to bad over a 200 meg connection though I got nowhere near that from the Microsoft servers.
